Vance Schneider of Altadena died in
Portland, Oregon on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at age 101. Born Vance Wallace Schneider, on November 15, 1911, in Davenport, North Dakota, he grew up on a farm in North Dakota, graduating from Central High School in Fargo. He spent several childhood years with his family in San Diego, California. He graduated in 1933 from North Dakota State University in electrical engineering. Following graduation he moved to Los Angeles where he met his wife, Madeline Rebecca Koenig, at the First Evangelical Church of Los Angeles and they were married at the Wee Kirk of the Heather on June 17, 1939. He studied accounting and eventually became a Certified Public Accountant. He worked in the title insurance industry as a controller retiring from Safeco Title Insurance. He was a member of Financial Executives International and the Lions Club. He and Madeline made their home in Altadena where they raised their only child, Stephen. Vance and Madeline shared over 71 years of marriage until her death in 2010. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Pasadena for 44 years and was beloved by family and friends for his kindness, his spiritual wisdom and compassion. He is survived by his son, Stephen (wife Ann); two granddaughters-Kimberly (husband John Branam) and Lindsay; and a great granddaughter, Cecilia Grace Branam. A memorial service for Vance will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 500 East Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
