Janice graduated from licensed vocational nursing school in 1961 and in 1964 from Hartnell College as a registered nurse. While attending college she was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma Nu and maintained a 3.6 GPA. After graduation she worked at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital as a surgical unit charge nurse. In 1966 she came to Los Angeles and married William Wilbur. They had two children (Michael and Charlene). She continued to pursue her nursing career at Daniel Freeman Hospital for the next 20 years as charge nurse of the surgical unit and evening supervisor. In 1974 she completed her BSN at CSULB and in 1996 completed course work in management and business. In 1997 she joined the beginning of the Laser Skin Care Center as clinical office manager, where she worked until her illness. As a member of ABWA (American Business Women's Association) for 20 years she chaired the Scholarship Committee which helped to raise money for worthy women pursuing their education. Janice also volunteered her time with the "Erase the Past", gang tattoo removal program, which assisted former gang members with tattoo removal so they could find gainful employment and remove themselves from the gang culture. Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center was also a recipient of her volunteer time in raising funds for families and children with various cancers of the body and serious blood disorders. In addition to her other various fund raising activities, Janice was also a Bronze Circle member of the "Friends of Arts Education" at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, raising monies for young people pursuing a music education.
