Obituary Condolences

AUDREY ADAMS NEWTON

Audrey Adams Newton, devoted mother, loving grandmother, and beloved friend, born March 3, 1932, passed away peacefully at her home on September 6, 2012, after a long and noble battle with spinal osteomyelitis and resulting paralysis.

Audrey was born in San Francisco, grew up in San Marino, and raised her family in Northridge. She graduated with a B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder and was an elementary school teacher and homemaker. In 1958, she married Dr. John Newton, who passed away in 1985. Audrey was a devoted member and leader of Northridge Women's Club, an avid traveler who instilled a love of travel in her sons, a huge USC Trojans fan, and a patriotic American.

She is survived by her loving sons, Jeffrey and Scott; daughters-in-law, Mimi and Lea Newton; nephew, Taylor Adams; sister-in-law, Jean Ekman Adams; grandchildren, Tom, Ted, Lily, and Kelly Newton; and many dear friends. Her fiery spirit, strength of character, sense of humor, and family leadership will be honored and cherished always.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12th, at 10:30 a.m., at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Northridge. In lieu of flowers and in celebration of Audrey's love for America, the family suggests donations in her name to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org, 2468 Historic Decatur Road, Bldg. 905, Suite 150, San Diego, CA 92106, (619) 981-9642.
