LORIS L. DORRIS, USAF (RET)
June 12, 1916 - December 14, 2012
An East Texas farm boy who dreamed of becoming a pilot. "Lo" attended Texas School of Mines on an athletic scholarship. When WWII broke out in Europe in the late 1930s he left college, joined the RCAF, attended pilot training in Canada, earned his wings, and shipped off to England to fly and fight for the Allies. After the Pearl Harbor attack he transferred to the US Army Air Corps. His Air Force career spanned 30 years. A Command Pilot, he flew combat in Korea, and Vietnam also. Along the way Lo completed his education earning a Bachelors degree from Louisiana Tech University and a Masters from San Francisco State. He and Sara Vandiver were married for 62 years, traveled worldwide, raising 7 children, producing 16 grand- children and 7 great grandchildren. After retirement in 1970 Lo and Sara settled in Highland and later Dana Point. He is now with Sara for eternity. Services with full military honors will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on January 25 at 2:30 PM.
