Thomas Ritchie Gibbons entered this life on January 18, 1939 and entered eternal life on January 28, 2013. He was born in Clayton, Missouri, a St. Louis suburb, and was the middle child of F. Ritchie Gibbons and Loraine Vogt Gibbons. He has an older brother, John (Sherry) and a sister, Sally (Jose') Kasalko. Tom's parents moved across the river into Edwardsville, Illinois, when he was a small child. Tom grew up in that "sleepy little bedroom community" and made a life there with his family. Tom graduated from St. Boniface Catholic grade school in 1952, Chaminade Catholic high school in 1956 and St. Louis University in 1960. He then earned his Juris Doctor law degree at St. Louis University, Columbia. Tom practiced law with his father, then private practice for 25 years. He temporarily closed his law practice when he was appointed a Circuit Court judge, a position he held for seven years. Tom raised two daughters, Deirdre Ann Gibbons and Valerie Frances (Daryl) Beetner and two sons, Ian Ritchie Gibbons, SJ and Brendan Christopher (Amy) Gibbons. He also has five grandchildren: Jessica, Kathleen and Sarah Beetner and Colin and Delaney Gibbons. They brought him such joy and pride. Tom was a private pilot since 1969, involved with amateur (ham) radio since high school and was also known for his culinary expertise that was enjoyed by all of his family and friends. Tom met Lisa Bargender in April 2006. Their friendship grew into love, they moved to Long Beach in June 1998, joined St. Gregory's Episcopal Church and married November 6, 1999. Tom was a member of the Associated Radio Amateurs of Long Beach and the Egyptian Radio Club in Illinois. He was communications director with Civil Air Patrol and net control communications for the Baker to Vegas relay race for several years. Tom is survived by his wife, Lisa, his children, grandchildren and siblings. As Tom would often say, "Bye for now". The funeral will be at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 10am. Please sign the guest book at www.press
