Our loving mother, Glenda, died the first day of April 2013 with family at her side. She was born in Horace, Kansas, on October 7, 1926 to Theodore Roosevelt Pearson and Alda (Hubbs) Pearson. Glenda arrived in Long Beach with her father, mother, sister (Ladina) and brother (Ted) in 1940. They were one of many families fleeing the devastation of the Dust Bowl. Those times were challenging and resulted in Glenda's strong work ethic, developed from an early age. She graduated from Jordan High School and was awarded their highest honor, the David Star Jordan Award. Glenda also attended Long Beach City College and was elected Fylke (homecoming) Queen in 1947. Glenda had a wonderful and extraordinary life. She was able to travel to many countries all over the world. She loved to experience different cultures and meet new people. She opened her heart and home to over 80 foreign exchange students, from every continent. Her interests and strengths included golf, water skiing, and an amazing ability to entertain and cook fabulous meals for family and friends. Glenda was proudest of her four sons, also known as the Barnes boys: Tom, Todd (Janna), Trent (Linda), Tyler (Chrissy); her eight beautiful grandchildren, Drew, Jeremy, Taylor, Tommy, Tatum (Dane), Morgan, Jordan, and Russell. She is survived by all the above. She is also survived by her ex-husband, Earl Barnes; her brother, Ted Pearson (Randa), and several nieces and nephews. She sang and danced with joy on this earth for 86 years. Mom, thanks for your loving example that lives on in all of us. Family and friends are invited to drop by Glenda's house for a celebration of her life Saturday, April 20th from 4:00 to 8:00. For more information call Todd at 805-704-7610.
