Laura Heatherly "Wanda" McNeil

Laura 'Wanda' Heatherly McNeil, 77, of LaFollette died Sept. 24.
She was a faithful member of Fordtown Baptist Church. ÊWanda retired from Imperial Reading when it closed, and spent her senior years enjoying her grandchildren and her dog Lucie, helping her family and friends,Êand cultivating many varieties of flowers, especially day lilies and digging and freely sharing her flowers with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe; grandson, Stephen; parents, Luke and Azilee Heatherly; brothers, Albert and Elmer Heatherly; sisters, Christien and Louise Heatherly and Reba Thornton.
She is survived by her three devoted sons and daughters-in-law; Larry and wife Donna, Darryl and wife Janet, and Greg and wife Shannon; stepdaughters, Linda Collins and husband Junior and Connie Oglesby and husband Darryl; granddaughters, Christy and Taylor Thornton; step granddaughter, Teffany Marlow; brothers, R.L. and Joe Heatherly; sisters, Dean Sheckles and Faye Groves, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends.
The family is very grateful for all the prayers, visits, phone calls, food and offers to help.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Steven 'Thor' Thornton Scholarship Fund, Community Trust Bank, established in honor of Grandson Steven and funds an Annual $1000 College Scholarship awarded to a local Campbell County high school student every June. ?A Tribute to Wanda's Faith, 'It's not about everything turning out OK; it's about being OK no matter how things turn out!'
Funeral services are Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. at Cross-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Dupuy and the Rev. Jim Heatherly officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at 11 a.m. in Bakers Forge Cemetery Sept. 28.
