Alice Jane Whitaker Coker, 97, died Nov. 14 at her home in LaFollette.
She was born Oct. 22, 1916, at Fairview Farm in New Market.
Alice graduated from Maryville College in 1938 with a degree in Sociology, moved to LaFollette and began her first job with the Tennessee Department of Public Welfare.
On Nov. 24, 1940, she married Chester Coker, who had been elected Circuit Court Clerk for Campbell County and later became an attorney and General Sessions Judge. She became the acting Circuit Court Clerk while Chester served in the U.S. Army.
In 1980, she retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Services. She loved working with people and helping people.
