Alice Taylor Chitwood, age 98, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 24. She was one of 11 children. She worked as a telephone operator in Oak Ridge during the war and retired from working at her sister's store in Jellico. She loved her town and the people in it. She was the oldest member of her church, Church of God, Mountain Assembly. Over the years, she loved to serve in women's ministry and other church activities. She loved to travel, sew, cook and spend time with her family. You would always be well fed and cared for at her home. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially on the porch. She was the matriarch of the family and will be dearly missed.
Alice was preceded in death by her mother and father, James Daniel and Isabell Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bobby Herron; son, David Chitwood; and 10 siblings.
She is survived by four grandchildren, Gail Stonecipher, and husband, Doug, of Huntsville, Tim Herron, of Norwood, Ohio, Ben Chitwood, and wife, Holly, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Roxanna Chitwood, of Nashville; daughter in law, Betty J. Chitwood, of Jellico; four great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Church of God, Mountain Assembly in Jellico, the funeral following with the Rev. Scott Landes, the Rev. Michael Padgett, and the Rev. Ray Landes officiating. Interment was held on Nov. 30 at the Jellico Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Church of God, Mountain Assembly, 256 N. Florence Ave., Jellico, TN 37762.
