Kennith Gene Smith, 64, of Speedwell died Aug. 18 after a lengthy battle with cancer and COPD. He was of the Baptist faith, and a retired auto mechanic and truck driver. One of his greatest joys was to go fishing with his wife. His grandchildren were the love of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Lois Shipley Smith; sister, Betty Joan Smith Robertson.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Treacy Monday Smith; son Steve Smith and wife Anglea; grandsons, Wyatt Smith and Carson Scott Smith; granddaughter, Kendra Leann Smith, all of Speedwell; very special aunt and caregiver for months whom he depended on Lettie Smith Russell, of Speedwell; aunt, Mary Ann Smith Pepon, Sandusky, Ohio; special cousin, Linda Jean Russell, of Speedwell.
Funeral services are today at 8 p.m. at Cross-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Mundy, the Rev. Brent Ellison, and the Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Interment is on Friday at Academy Cemetery in Speedwell on Aug. 23 at 2 p.m.
Cross-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
