Martin T. Goins, Jr., age 67, of Monroe, Mich., passed away peacefully at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in his home after a lengthy illness.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 21 at Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church, Monroe, the Rev. B.J. McDaniel, Pastor of the church, officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, with military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1138, Monroe.
Born Oct. 7, 1949, in Monroe, he is the son of Martin T. and Helen (Bowman) Goins. Martin graduated from Monroe High School with the class of 1967. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from April of 1968 to Dec. of 1969. He worked for Consumers Energy as a Coal Supply Operator for 31 years, retiring in 2007. Martin was a proud member of V.F.W. Post 1138 of Monroe and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 258. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and, most of all, spending time with friends and family.
To cherish his memory, Martin leaves two children, Andrew Goins of Taylor, Mich. and Tracie (John) Heidenreich of Romulus, Mich.; parents, Martin Sr. and Helen Goins of Monroe; one brother, Ronald (Dawn) Goins of Monroe; two sister, Brenda (Howie) Sieb of Monroe and Linda Collins of Monroe; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles and one sister, Mary Anteau.
Memorial contributions in Martin's memory may be made to Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church.
