Charles Smith

LaGRANGE — Mr. Charles Smith, age 84, of LaGrange, died on October 28, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born on March 21, 1929, in Tallapoosa, Alabama, to the late Floyd Smith and Lena Jewell Peppers Smith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired as a mechanic from Kleen-Tex. Mr. Smith was a member of the East Vernon Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Wylene Smith of LaGrange; son, Terry J. Smith and his wife Sandra of Olney, Illinois; daughter, Shirlynn Skipper and her husband Ken (Skip) of LaGrange; sister, Arvie Mapp of Lubbock, Tx.; grandchildren, Brant Skipper (Shannon), Angie Zerkle (Brent), Kristie Smith, Sherrie Rudolphi (Todd), Fallon Wales (Jeremy); great grandchildren, Katlynn, Cidney, Carson, Garrett, Jackson, Josie-Rose; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at the East Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Don Ellison officiating. Remains to lie in state at the church beginning at 12:00 pm until service hour. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel Funeral Home. The deacons of the East Vernon Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers and Mr. Smith's Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
