COLUMBIA, Mo. — Janet Forrester Welsh, formerly of Columbia, MO, peacefully passed from this life on October 8, 2013, in Oconomowoc, WI.
She was born August 18, 1923, in LaGrange, GA, to Margaret Forrester and George M. (Elizabeth Combs) Forrester. Her family includes Roger (Kathleen) Welsh, Marcia Hess, the late Marilyn (Edward) Skingley, and Jennifer (Robert) Erdmann; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Warren Welsh, daughter, Marilyn Skingley, and two sons-in-law, Ronald Hess and Stanley Swingen. To know Janet was to know a truly creative spirit, a unique individual and a generous soul. She loved music and taught recorder for over 40 years. Her recorder groups were like family. She painted and sketched whenever and wherever she could and was adept at portraitures. Sewing, quilting and Norwegian knitting gave Janet great joy - she was proud of the many quilts, sweaters and afghans she shared with family and friends. An avid reader, Janet was a life-long learner whose interests were broad and varied. Friends were always an essential part of Janet's life. She made friends easily and kept them forever. There were no boundaries - all were welcome within her heart - all were precious in her eyes. A special thank you to all of the staff at Shorehaven Center for Life Enhancement. Your kindness, warmth and gentle care made every day a day filled with Light and Love.
A memorial service will be held in late spring 2014 in Columbia, MO, with interment in Lancaster, MO. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Silent Unity or a local (to you) charity/food pantry that supports the underserved or natural resources.
