Stephanie Lynn (Thomas) Brumbeloe

Stephanie Lynn Thomas Brumbeloe, age 54 of Marietta, passed on to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Northside Hospital following a 5½-year battle with ovarian cancer.

She was the daughter of Hazel "Cookie" and Paul Thomas of Tucker, Ga. She graduated from Tucker High School, earned an associate degree from Dekalb College, a BS in Recreation from North Georgia College, a Master of Recreation and Park Administration from Clemson University and a Master of Public Administration from Georgia State University. Stephanie was a Girl Scout from Daisies through Explorers and served as an Explorer Scout Leader for four years.

In her early career, she worked with the Corps of Engineers as a park ranger and Dekalb County Parks and Recreation. She was a leader in providing direction for after-school programs starting with Muscogee County Schools in Columbus, Ga., then the state of Georgia through the Georgia School Age Care Association and later nationwide through the National After School Association. She later oversaw accreditation for after-school programs that served children of active military parents with BW Kearney Associates and most recently with Serco.

She was preceded in death by mother Cookie Thomas and uncle Robert Bolton. She is survived by husband Benjie Brumbeloe Jr., son Benjamin III, daughter Caroline Michelle, and stepdaughter Katie Brumbeloe; father Paul Thomas; brother Bill (Megan) Thomas; aunts Mary Thomas Bolton and Nancy (Kenneth) Cook Brown; nephew William Thomas and niece Sarah Thomas; and cousins Nancy (Hal) Bolton Peak, David (Connie) Bolton and Jimmy (Lisa) Brown.

She was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. Services are 1 p.m. Friday at the church, with a reception to follow there.
