The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Joe Louis McMillion of LaGrange will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 2:00PM at the Warren Temple United Methodist Church. Pastor Vincent J. Dominque and Rev. Martha Randall will officiate. Entombment will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum with military honors.
Mr. McMillion, a native of Moultrie, Georgia, was born February 22, 1936 and was the son of the late Arthur McMillion and Annie McKinnes McMillion. He was a graduate of Moultrie High School and served in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Albany State College and received the Master's Degree in Education from West Georgia College. He was retired from the Troup County School System after 35 years. He later became a Troup County Building Inspector and retired in 2006.
Mr. McMillion was an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and was an devoted member of Warren Temple United Methodist Church. At Warren Temple, he served as President of the United Methodist Men and other auxilaries of the church. He served as Vice Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 580 and was a member of the Big 4 Men's Club. Joe was an avid sports fan and loved football, fishing and hunting and later found an appreciation for car racing.
He was married to Alberta Mary Lee Woods McMillion who preceded him in death in 2012.
In addition, one brother, George Murphy and two sisters: Elizabeth Harrell and Bernice Herring, also preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters: Cheri' Etita Johnson (Jerald), Charlotte, NC; Debra Denise Moss (Moses), Florida City, FL; Jawaun Lanee' Hicks (Sylvester), Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren: Timika Hester, Brodrick Hester, Thomas Hester, Everett Hester, Ernest Hester, Jalessa Johnson, Jonathon Hicks, Sierra Hicks; one great-grandchild, Brandon Hester; two sisters: Lois Zorn and Celia Booth; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 until 8 and will be at their home at 752 Matthews Drive.
