Edythe Hayden passed away peacefully on February 20, 2014. Born in Newburyport, MA, to Agnes Peacock and William Nicol, she spent most of her adult life in San Diego after marrying Lt. Colonel Stephen C. Munson Jr., USMC (Ret), who died in 1975. In 1979 Edythe married Colonel Reynolds H. Hayden, USMC (Ret), who passed away in 2005.
Edythe traveled all over the world and especially enjoyed cruises. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. She continued her love of games with competitive Bingo at the Remington Club, and was an expert knitter, offering assistance to others and knitting hats for newborn babies. She also volunteered at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
Edythe, also known as "Edy Mouse", had a large collection of miniature mice. She will be remembered for her "joie de vivre", her fun-loving gatherings, and her dancing.
She leaves her nephew James G. Perkins Jr.'s wife, Phyllis Perkins; niece, Linda (Whittier) Coe of Ipswich, MA; great-nieces, Pamela (Perkins) Kipp of Newburyport, MA, and Janet (Perkins) White of Essex, MA; as well as five great-great nieces and nephews.
Edythe has been cremated and her ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean. A celebration of Edythe's life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 10AM at The Remington Club, 16925 Hierba Drive, San Diego.
