James Eisenhower, age 92, of San Diego, California, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2014. He was born December 23, 1921, in Schell City, Missouri, to James and Josie Eisenhower. He met his high school sweetheart, Deloris Wiltse and they married on March 9, 1945, after he served three years in the U.S. Navy aboard the submarine USS Gunnel. |
James served as a youth counselor for the California Youth Authority in Sacramento, assisting in the implementation of an innovative new youth counseling project known as "Wintu". After retiring in 1978, Jim spent three years building a Westsail 28 sailboat from a bare hull. He and Dee enjoyed sailing extensively in the San Francisco Bay area.
Jim was truly a builder of people as well. He had a keen sense of humor, a quick wit, and positive encouragement for anyone who sought his counsel!! He deeply loved his wife and family, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris; brother, Arthur; sons, James (Tony), Jerry, and Jeff; daughter, Jan; as well as 10 amazing grandchildren and 13 beautiful great-grandchildren!
A memorial service will be held in Poway, California.
