Mark Brenner, 70, passed away on January 31, 2014. He was born on June 10, 1943, in New York City to Morris and Sophie (Segal) Brenner. |
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Somboonsri "Samantha" Brenner. He is survived by his son, Narin and daughter-in-law, Shannon; daughter, Narinda and son-in-law, Christopher Greene; and grandsons, Nicholas (10 years), Jackson (6 years), Brenner and Jacob (3 years) Greene. He is also survived by his sister, Arlene Brenner and husband, Nat Lish. Also remembered and loved by his aunt, Rose Anderson; his cousin, Michael Anderson and wife, Terry; and his cousin, Patricia Van Otterdyk and husband, Bartho.
Mark proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969. He met his adored wife, Samantha, in Saigon during his Tour of Duty in the Vietnam War. He then worked in advertising and publishing and was the owner/publisher/editor of the Rancho Bernardo Sun and Diamond Gateway newspapers from 1990 – 2012.
Mark loved classical music, operas, reading and writing novels, the beach (especially Brighton Beach in Brooklyn), New York City, a Nathan's Hot Dog with mustard, but mostly he loved his family. He also had a deep love for the people and the community of Rancho Bernardo where he enjoyed visiting, kibitzing, and talking business with friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Poway Bernardo Mortuary, 13243 Poway Road, Poway, CA 92064. www.powaybernardomortuary.net.
