Dick Welty, of Rancho Bernardo, lost his l9 month battle with lung cancer on July 15, 2013. His wife, Sally, was by his side. They looked forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in August.|
Dick is survived by his daughter, Dana (Kent) Adams of Naperville, IL; son, Stephen (Kelley) of Walkersville, MD; and five grandchildren, Ryne, Finley and Grady Travis, and Ethan and Owen Welty who loved their "Pops".
Dick, born October 7, 1941, was the son of Richard and Esther Welty, brother of Patricia Welty, son-in-law of William and Patricia Haines of Rancho Bernardo, and brother -in-law of William (Leslie) Haines of Worcester, VT.
Dick met Sally at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, where he was a member of the track team and Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Dick served the U. S. Army as a combat medic in Vietnam in l968. His business years were spent in the health and steel industries in Chicago and San Diego.
A resident of Rancho Bernardo since l989, Dick enjoyed golfing at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo and traveling with his family.
Services will be private.
