Dr. Frank Walker Obituary
Walker, Dr. Frank Matrix Was born August 23, 1966 to Frank and Catherine Walker in Lake Providence, Louisiana. From childhood, Dr. Walker was known as "Matrix," "Doc," or "Mate" to his family and close friends. The oldest of the three "Walker Boys," Matrix accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized by Reverend J.N. Lightfoot at Shiloh Baptist Church in Waukegan, Illinois, and was a member of New Zion Baptist Church in Carbondale, IL under the leadership of Pastor Cox. As a child and young man, Matrix was involved in various sports, activities, and youth groups. Most importantly, Matrix was also active in church. He was involved in Sunday school and Baptist Youth Fellowship (BYF). Despite being a very serious child, Matrix always displayed a kind-hearted, caring nature and had no problem telling all the younger children how to behave. Not only did Matrix care for his younger brothers, but he also "supervised" his younger cousins. As one of the oldest children in the Walker and Threats families, he took on the role of making sure everyone and everything was in order, especially when it came to playtime during family gatherings. Matrix never wanted anyone to get hurt because he felt that, as the oldest, he would (and should) be held responsible. Most would say that even in his youth, Matrix displayed characteristics of a doctor because he was always wise beyond his years and offered the best advice for solving problems, big and small. Matrix attended elementary school and junior high in Waukegan and graduated from Waukegan West High School in 1984. He went on to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a Pre-Med/Biology major and earned his Bachelor of Science in 1988. While at U of I he was initiated into the Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity incorporated in the fall of 1986. After graduating, Matrix joined the U.S. Army Reserves, proudly serving his country for nearly 10 years as a Second Lieutenant. During this time, he also attended the Chicago Medical School, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine on June 12,1994. He did residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Matrix relocated to San Antonio, Texas and practiced at Southeast OB/GYN Association from 1998-2001. He then relocated to Carbondale, Illinois, where he became a partner in the New Horizons Obstetrics and Gynecology Practice. He was active in a number of professional, civic and community organizations. Matrix was married to Vantrella Proby 1996 - 2011, and into this union two beautiful daughters were born, Victoria (Big Girl) in 2001 and Alexandria (Peanut) in 2003. Nothing could keep him from spending time with his beautiful daughters, who he considered his greatest blessings from God. Throughout his career, the Lord allowed Matrix to deliver more than 3,000 babies. From his professional peers to excited parents-to-be, Matrix received numerous compliments on his bedside manner, sincerity, knowledge, and professionalism. Matrix knew that he was blessed to be able to assist in the birth of numerous babies and accepted the responsibility with a smile. He would always announce, "Time to make the doughnuts," and considered each birth a gift from God. Matrix was a down-to-earth, kind-hearted, loving man with a witty sense of humor. He could (and would) carry a conversation with anyone and never wanted anyone to feel intimidated by his success or knowledge. As a son, brother, and father, Matrix led by example because he lived his life respecting others and honoring the Lord in all of his actions. On July 1, 2014, Matrix was called to his heavenly home.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Garrett and Marie Walker, Dudley and Inez Threats; his uncles, Anthony Threats, Garrett Walker Jr., Earl Walker; and three cousins, Lavon Banks Jr., Arthur Loud Jr. (Pumpkin) and Brian Lundy Jr. Matrix is survived by his daughters; parents; two brothers, Euclid (Francine) and Martin (Tynecia) and several godsisters and godbrothers. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends will forever cherish him in their memories.
