Keith Joplin Obituary
Joplin, Keith 54, of North Chicago, IL, passed away at Vista East Medical Center on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was the husband of Lillie Marie (Bennett-Hurd) Joplin. Born in Waukegan, Illinois, son of the late Henry and Esther Marie Joplin, Keith graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 1977. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1983, receiving an honorable discharge in March of 1988. A jazz aficionado and movie buff, Keith was also an avid Chicago Bears, Bulls, and Cubs sports fan. He enjoyed travel and reading both non-fiction and historical fiction. Keith proudly served the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Division of Corrections from May 1989 until the day of his death. He was promoted to the rank of Corrections Sergeant on June 6, 2000. His colleagues and friends knew him as "Jop," a man who surrounded himself with good people and took great pride in serving his country and his community. He touched the hearts of many throughout his life and will be profoundly missed. Besides his parents, Keith's brother, LaRue Pearson, preceded him in death. In addition to his wife, Keith is survived by daughter, Keidria (Shun) Glass, Waukegan IL; his sons, Justin Joplin, Englewood, OH and Quinston Joplin, Englewood, OH; his sisters, Charlene (William) Scott, North Chicago IL, Darlene (Pam) Young, North Chicago, IL, Beatrice Thompson, Zion, IL; and his brother, Duane (Camen) Joplin, Zion IL. Keith is also survived by his stepchildren, Jacqueline Bennett, North Chicago, IL, Xaviar (Claudia) Bennett, West Palm Beach, FL, Danancia (Alex) Maskalik, Windsor, CT, Trevor Bennett-Hurd, Baraboo, WI; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Celebration of His Life Service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 S. Genesee St., Waukegan, IL. Pastor Walstone Francis, Officiating.
