Quintin W. Guerin Obituary
Guerin, Quintin W. Age 94, of Heather Ridge in Gurnee passed away on August 20, 2014. Quintin was a lifelong resident of Waukegan and Gurnee. He graduated from Waukegan High School and the universities of Northern IL and Chicago. He was a recipient of honors from the University of Chicago's Federal Executive Development Program. Quintin spent his professional life as a Training Director with the Naval Dept. at Great Lakes and then the Regional Office of the IRS in Chicago. He authored numerous articles in the fields of Public Administration, Personnel Management and Adult Education. He was an evening school instructor at Waukegan High School. After retirement he taught at Roosevelt University and the University of WI at Parkside in Kenosha. Quintin helped found the Lake County Training Directors Association and was president for several terms. The secretaries of the Navy and Treasury Department awarded him outstanding service awards for his accomplishments in the fields of Training and Equal Employment Opportunity. He was a Naval Chief Petty Officer and veteran of WWII serving in the Philippines and Okinawa. He was attached to the 96th, 27th and 77th Infantry Divisions. The Secretary of the Navy, General Douglas MacArthur and the Philippine Government cited his unit for their efforts in evacuation of civilians from harms way during combat infantry operations. Quintin was an avid golfer, enjoyed cross-country skiing and dancing. In his youth, he was a member of the Reed Randle Hockey Team. He was a member the American Legion Dahringer Post 281, the VFW Post 4308, Moose Lodge 706, the Elks and AARP. Quintin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julie (nee Zelenik). He is survived by his brother, Robert (Betty) Guerin of Lake Worth, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Quintin was preceded in death by his parents, Hester (nee Warwick) and Bernard Guerin; his sisters, Dolores Sirvidas and Margaret Sutinis; and brothers, Bernard, Wilson, Francis and William. Friends may visit on Monday, August 25, from 3:30 - 7:00 p.m. at Salata Gurnee Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee. Visitation also Tuesday, August 26 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 6401 Gages Lake Road, Gurnee with interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
