Leo Koncan Obituary
Koncan, Leo 83, passed away after a 5 year struggle with Alzheimer's disease, on May 29, 2014. Born in North Chicago on Adams St., to the late John and Frances Koncan on April 5, 1931. Married the love of his life, Lorraine Kopier, on August, 22, 1953. Together they raised three daughters, Karen (Pete) DePerte, Janice (Brian) Bell, and Beth Campion (loving friend Andy Runyard). Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Lorraine; his daughters; loving grandchildren, Vito DePerte, Adrienne (Mark) Mulvaney, Kendra Harris (fiancé Ivan Rios) and Lia Campion (fiancé Hunter Beesch); his adorable great-grandchildren, Shayla and Brianna Mulvaney who called him 'Old Papa'. Also surviving are his brother, Tom (Lois) Koncan; sister, Loretta Zaker; and sisters-in-law, Bea Koncan, Barb Rumpza and Dorothy (Roger) Cvik; along with a host of loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brothers, John (Julia) Koncan, Bill Koncan; sisters, Sylvia (John) Zaugra and Phyllis (Joe) Foltz; and brothers-in-law, Vince Zaker, Glenn Stevens, and George Rumpza. Leo was a 4 year Korean War Veteran serving on the USS Saipan. Retired as a dedicated fireman/paramedic after 31 years with the North Chicago Fire Dept. We will never forget his infectious smile, loud laugh; sausage making and a whistle that let you know when he was near. Visitation will be held Monday, June 2, from 9:30-10:30a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church located at 6401 Gages Lake Rd., Gurnee, IL. with a funeral mass to follow at 10:30a.m. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL. The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to the amazing staff of Midwest Hospice for their care and compassion during his last days.
