Claretha Frances Ferguson

Ms. Claretha Frances Ferguson, oldest of three daughters born to Martin and Carrie Ferguson, passed away in Jacksonville, Florida, May 21, 2014.  She was born June 15, 1946 in Columbia County, Florida.  Claretha was educated in the public schools of Columbia County in which her father M.L. Ferguson was Principal and mother was a classroom instructor.  A graduate of Richardson High School class of 1963; she furthered her education at Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Food and Nutrition.  Later Claretha received her Master's Degree from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida.  She was employed as a Dietitian in Harlem, New York, Shreveport, Louisiana and Gainesville, Florida.  She was a lifelong member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Lake City, Florida, Inc.  Claretha was a United States Army Reservist, where her travels were extensive and she was a part of Operation Desert Storm.  After more than 20 years of service, Claretha retired having attained the rank of Colonel.  During her tenure as a reservist, she was employed with the Department of Education, Jacksonville, Florida, working as a field Dietitian.  She enjoyed sports, traveling, reading and family gatherings.  Claretha will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services for Claretha Ferguson will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Lake City, Inc. 550 NE Martin Luther King Street. Alvin J. Baker, Pastor.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at New Bethel MB Baptist Church.
