Mr. Gorie Combs formerly of Bronx, New York, passed away on February 18, 2014 at the VA Hospice Unit in Lake City, Florida. Mr. Combs, 92, was born in Columbia County Lake City, FL to the late Sterling and Mabel Lowe Combs. Growing up in Lake City, he received his education in the Columbia County School System. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and received an Honorable discharge in 1946. He moved to New York and resided there several years until relocating to Lake City in 2012. Mr. Combs married the late Coretha Carruthers Combs and to this union four children were born. Coretha and two of the children, Lucille and Vernon precedes him in death. He worked diligently with the Teamsters Union, Ryder Trucking and Shopwell Food Industry, retiring from the latter. Later in life, he married Mrs. Hattie Pipten whose residence is in New York.

Funeral services for Mr. Gorie Combs will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Lake City, FL, Inc. 550 NE Martin Luther King Street, Lake City, FL, Alvin J. Baker, Pastor.
