Mr. James Hinton Hill, Sr., aged 91, died October 6, 2013 in Lake City, Florida. At the time of his death, he was residing at the Lake City Health Center, having been a resident of Lake City since 1968.
A native of Sneads, Florida, he was retired as an Avionics Mechanic Specialist, non-destructive testing, with the US Navy, achieving the rank of Chief (AMHC) after serving for 22 years. He served aboard the USS Shangri-La and was a veteran of the World War II, Korea and Vietnam wars.
He had been a member of long standing in the Masonic Lodge, the BPOE (Elks) and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He had been employed as a dispatcher with the Florida Highway Patrol in the Quincy District and rose to the rank of Major as a member of the FHP Auxiliary in the Lake City District. His last employment was with QC Laboratories in conjunction with Aero Corporation.
He is survived by a sister, Sarah Kreiss (Richard) of Hiawassee, Georgia; a son, Thomas McKenzie (Kristie) of Baltimore, Maryland; a daughter, Karen Hill of Corpus Christi, Texas; a daughter, Sandy Smith of Lake City, Florida; a son, James H. Hill, Jr. (Cherie) of Austin, Texas; three step-daughters and numerous grand-children, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, one sister and his wife of 47 years, Elvie Alene "Mickie" Hill.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to allow those who are able to attend and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Navy Relief Fund.
