Mr. Jeb Stuart Johns, 32, of Lake City, died May 1, 2014, at Shands at the University of Florida, Gainesville, following an extended illness. He is survived by his parents, C. F. Johns, III (Skip) and Linda Dyal Johns; a sister, Ashley Johns Thomas (Adam) and niece, Amory Thomas; an aunt, Peggy Dyal Sandlin (Carl) and an uncle, Ray Dyal (Debi); his paternal grandfather, Claudie Johns, Jr., and extended family. Jeb is the grandson of Claudie and Maizie (Byrd) Johns and Otis C. and Peggy (Pagans) Dyal. He was born in Gainesville, Florida, on October 2, 1981, resided predominantly in Lake City, was a 2001 graduate of Columbia High School and attended the Florida Gateway College and Tallahassee Community College. He was employed in the construction industry, was a gifted artist, enjoyed body building and physical fitness, was licensed, competed and trained others in mixed martial arts, loved boxing and many sports. He enjoyed rigorous outdoor activities. Jeb was an avid reader, particularly mythology, ancient history, and legend, and was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. He lived by the Jack Dempsey quote "A champion is someone who gets up even when he can't.", and believed our greatest battle in this life is to truly know and understand our own soul. The family wishes to thank the Critical Care Team of the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Shands UF for their extraordinary care and compassion throughout Jeb's illness. A memorial service at St. James Episcopal Church is being scheduled at a later date. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jeb's name be made to the charity or organization of your preference.
