Ben W. Carden, Jr went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 22, 2013.
Ben was born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 27, 1921. At an early age he moved to Coosa County, AL. and he grew up there.
He served in the U.S. Army, as a Medic, in the European Theater during World War II.
Ben married Lucile Driver on November 9, 1943. They moved to Columbia County, FL in 1951 with their 2 sons. He worked for the VA Hospital in Lake City for more than 30 years.
Ben served in the Boy Scouts as a Scout Master of Troupe 153, sponsored by the Lions Club, during the late 60's. He was a participating Scout Master in the Suwannee River Raft Races that ran along the Suwannee, starting in Branford, FL.
Ben was preceded in death by his son "Ron" Ronald Bruce Carden.
Survivors Include: His wife of 69 years, Lucile D. Carden. One son, Ben "Wayne" Carden and his wife Judy. Two granddaughters, Stephanie Sutermeister and her husband, Keith; and Medea Carter. Two grandsons, Damon Carden and his wife, Elizabeth; and Jeremy Carden. Five Great-Grandsons and four Great-Granddaughters.
Memorial Services will be held at Elim Baptist Church on Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 AM; Reverends Larry Sweat and Charles Knight officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Elim Baptist Church, P.O. Box 448, Fort White, FL 32038.
