Lester "Bernard" Jenkins was born February 27, 1953, in Jacksonville, Florida to Mattie and Clyde Jenkins, Sr. They preceded him in death. On August 21, 2018, at Haven Hospice Care Center, Lake City, Florida, he answered the call to go into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior. He was educated in the Columbia County School System. Bernard was united in wedlock to Jackie Portee Jenkins, who also precedes him in death. He was employed with Shands Lake Shore Hospital as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist, Baker Correctional Institution as a Correctional Officer, Northeast Florida State Hospital, and Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida. Several other family members precede him in death, including an aunt, Inez Hamilton.
Left to cherish memories: Daughters, Akiko Jenkins Wilson (Clayrinski), and Kimberly Pertee; sons, Arthur Washington (Bekela), David Jenkins; grandchildren, Clayon, Demetri, Brandon Eldrick, Ladarius, Areia, Arthur, Reneca, Ronesia, Miriam, Jeremy, Jerimiah, Jerry, Serenity, Daivion, Jayden, and Graci; sisters, Antoinette Jenkins (Henry Perry), Priscilla Cill Jenkins, Veda Gramling (Phillip), Bonny Lamb (Gary); brothers, Clyde Jenkins (Irene), Ferrell Jenkins; devoted cousin, Gail Hamilton; hosts of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including devoted friends, Gerald Williams, Randy Ruise, Carolyn Kelly, Tracey Johnson, and Franklin Penj Newton.
Funeral services for Lester Bernard Jenkins will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018, at New Mount Zion AME Church, Lake City, FL, Rev. Anthony Newton, Pastor.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018, at the funeral home.
