Vonnie Jean Russ Griffis, age 69, of Sanderson, Florida passed away November 11, 2012 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, FL with family by her side. She was born in Lake City, FL on March 1, 1943 to the late Charles Franklin Russ and Ina Bell Douglas Murray. Vonnie has been a resident of Sanderson since 1965 after moving from Lake City. She was a member of Cuyler Baptist Church and she retired from Griffis Timber Ink as an Office Manager after 40 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and gardening, but most of all she enjoyed being surrounded by grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Edward Russ.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Willie Griffis of Sanderson, FL; her children, Edward (Leona) Griffis, Patricia (Mike) Heppner, Debbie J. (Max) Smith, Ray (Melita) Griffis, Allen (Mary) Griffis, Penny (Eddie) Croft, and Keith (Tabitha) Griffis; her brothers, Fletcher Russ, Charles (Diane) Russ, John A. (Joanne) Murray; her sister, Mary (Stanley) Baldwin; her 22 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel with Pastors Fred Raulerson and Mike Norman officiating. Interment will follow at Olustee Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
