Mr. Joel L. Jowers, 65, of Lake City, died unexpectedly Friday morning, April 30, 2010, in the Shands at Lake Shore E.R. A native of Clearwater, Florida, Mr. Jowers had been a resident of Columbia County since the age of nine. The son of the late John & Sadie Mae Crews Jowers, Mr. Jowers served for sixteen years in the United States Army. He then went to work with the V.A. Medical Center here in Lake City where he worked for nineteen years prior to retiring in 1995. He worked in several different positions in different divisions including the pharmacy and supply departments. Mr. Jowers enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a Christian.

Mr. Jowers is survived by his wife, Wanda Wheeler Jowers; his sons, Joel H. "Joey" Jowers of Augusta, Georgia; Charles Richard "Ricky" Jowers (Jennifer) of Lake City; and George David Jowers of Lake City; a daughter, Linda Beth Robertson of Lake City and two step sons, Eddie Wheeler (Twyla) and Charlie Wheeler both of Jasper, Florida. Twelve grandchildren, three great-grand-daughters and a great-grandson also survive.
A celebration of life service for Mr. Jowers will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in the chapel of the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home with Rev. Cagney Tanner officiating.
