Mrs. Ruth Newsom, 93, of Lulu passed away July 24, 2016. Mrs. Newsom was born to the late Arad and Bessie Ward in Bruce, FL , but had lived in the Lulu area since 1941. Mrs. Newsom worked for several years as a teller at Columbia County Bank, enjoyed sitting on her screened porch looking at people and birds go by, and was a member of Lulu Baptist Church. Mrs. Newsom was preceded in death by her husband Cecil B. Newsom, her brothers Stanley Ward and Thomas Ward, a son-in-law George Lord, and a great granddaughter Sarah.
Mrs. Newsom is survived by her daughter Virginia Lord of Valdosta, GA, her sons David Newsom (Brenda) of Lake Butler and Clifton Newsom (Kathy) of St. Augustine, FL, her grandchildren Eric Lord, Angie Kufrovich, Shawn Newsom, and Ashley Newsom, and her great-grandchildren Aidan, Gracie, Ashton, and Conner.
Funeral services for Mrs. Newsom will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Lulu Baptist Church in Lulu, FL. Interment will follow in Douglas Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Haven Hospice of the Suwannee Valley , 618 SW Florida Gateway Drive, Lake City, FL 32024 . I met Mrs. Newsom several years ago and was impressed by her grace and poise. She had charm and gentility. I have thought of her over the years and felt fortunate to have met her, I know her family will miss her.
