Edward Wheeler Hones died at home on Sept. 17, 2012. He was born in Columbia, S.C. April 9, 1922. Dr. Hones worked as a physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1965 until retiring in 1987 and was best known for his work on the problem of the magnetospheric substorm. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Campbell Hunt Hones on Jan. 27, 2011. Hones is survived by his sister Marguerite and husband Slim Owen of Harlingen, Texas; his son William Gholson Hones and wife Louise Chandler Hones of Seattle, Wash.; his daughters Janie Pendleton O'Rourke and husband Peter John O'Rourke of Los Alamos and Virginia Carolyn Waggoner of Portland, Ore.; and grandchildren Sean Michael O'Rourke, Colin Patrick O'Rourke, William Chandler Hones, and Edward Wheeler Hones, III. A memorial is set for 10:00 a.m. on Nov. 8 at Guaje Pines cemetery in Los Alamos.

My sincere condolences. Your Dad was my cousin. My Mom, Bertha ("Buddy" Hones Loderhose, always referred to him as "Young Ed," to distinguish him from her brother, your grandfather.
