Alice Gayleene Sherwood

Alice Gayleene Sherwood, 79, of Elkhart, Kansas passed away Aug. 14, 2013
Gayleene was born Nov. 23, 1933 in Fort Cobb, Okla., to John and Ruth Cox. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerald L. Sherwood; her parents and son Dana Lee. Surviving her are her sons Robert and Gregory; sisters Mary Jane and Betty Jean; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
Gayleene had a rich and varied life from growing up in Keyes, Okla., and then living in Los Alamos, where her husband was a mechanical engineer for the Los Alamos National Laboratory. After retirement, they traveled for a number of years until health issues required them to make Elkhart their home. After the passing of Jerald, Gayleene found enjoyment at the Elkhart Senior Center and then the Assisted Living Center of Morton County.
Services will be graveside at 11 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Elkhart Cemetery, with a reception hosted by the family to follow at the Flying Monkey Café in downtown Elkhart. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the any memorial donations be made to the High Plains Health Foundation Residents Scholarship Program, P.O. Box 871, Elkhart, KS 67950
