Gordon W. Knobeloch was born in St. Louis, MO on February 25th, 1924 and he died peacefully of natural causes at home on June 26, 2013 at the age of 89.
After completing his bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, he served in the infantry and was transferred in late 1944 to Los Alamos in support of the Manhattan project. From 1951 until his retirement in 1987 he was involved with all aspects of radiochemical diagnostics and other numerous chemical studies. Recently his contributions were recognized by the Laboratory in an award praising his calculations and studies in a collection of his notebooks.
He was involved in the community by serving as the county PTA president; working with others to start-up swimming teams; as a docent of the Los Alamos Historical Society; assistant Boy Scout leader among other activities. His wife of over 64 years is deceased. He is survived by a daughter Nancy and her husband Bill Tyson; by a son Dan and his wife Mary Ann Cristello; and grandchildren Brian, Kyle, Dennis, Zachary and Alyssa; and 9 great grandchildren. No services are planned at his request.
