Bobby George Strait went into the arms of Jesus on October 29, 2017. He was 85 years old. Bobby was born December 20, 1931 in Miami, OK to George L. and Georgie Mae (Garoutte) Strait. On December 22, 1951 he married the love of his life, Lois Lenora Highnite. They were blessed with two daughters, Rebecca Hackenberry and Connie Linthicum.
Bobby proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951 – 1955. He earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electronic Engineering from Kansas State Univeristy. He began working at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1960 where he was an integral part of many exciting projects and very active in IEEE. He had jobs as associate group leader and group leader and was a consultant to Mexico at the UN, Vienna Austria from 1979-1980. He was part of a group who studied the sun by chasing solar eclipses. He built the equipment to steady the cameras. He retired in 1991.
Bobby was an enthusiastic snow skier, enjoying the mountains in New Mexico as well as Colorado. He enjoyed running for exercise. Outside of work he served on various committees of the Los Alamos Credit Union and The White Rock Baptist. Bobby and Lois traveled in their RV to most of the 48 states. They ended up spending most of their retirement in RV parks of Florida. They lived in Greensboro, NC close to family after their travels came to an end. Moved to Colorado July 2017 where Bobby again enjoyed the mountains both from his apartment and on drive to view the fall leaves.
Photography gave Bobby great joy. He was never without a camera in his hands, photographing weddings, scenery, family and friends. Using his computer skills he did all his own editing and printing. Some of his most treasured pieces are photos of wild life in Africa, the Matterhorn in Switzerland, and other places that his work took him around the world.
Grandchildren were the pride of his life. He attended every event of their growing up. Then the great grand kids were an extra bonus. Bobby enjoyed friends from the past and new ones along the way. He was easy to talk to and made people feel special.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Wonda Rae Cote and Rita Brongart. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois Strait, daughters Rebecca Hackenberry (Stephen) of Thorton, CO, Connie Linthicum (Jeff) of Greensboro, NC.
