Constance Mary Cobb was born March 11, 1943, in Rockford, Illinois to Norman and Geraldine Olson.
Constance (known to everyone as Connie) married Donald Cobb (Don) on August 3, 1963. They moved to Los Alamos from Iowa City, Iowa, with their two-year-old daughter Paula, arriving on July 22, 1970. Their daughter Allison was born in March, 1971. (Connie often remarked that, at first, she thought it was just the change in altitude.) They have been members of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Los Alamos for 48 years.
Connie graduated from Harlem High School in Loves Park, Illinois, in 1961. She received an associates degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee. She practiced as a dental assistant before moving to Los Alamos, where she managed buying for a Hallmark store and worked as a travel agent.
An avid fan of Chicago Cubs baseball, and Iowa Hawkeyes football, Connie traveled with Don several times a year to watch games. They also traveled the world together, taking cruises to visit countries of Europe, and North and Central America. A favorite place they returned to many times was the island of Kauai in Hawaii. They also had a cabin near Heron Lake in northern New Mexico. Born and raised Midwesterners, they soon came to love the Land of Enchantment.
Connie was a talented quilter, a dedicated mother and grandmother, and good friend to many. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, her daughters, her son-in-law Michael Ward, her very special grandchildren Nathan and Arielle, her sister Patricia, and many friends and loved ones. Her warm smile, sparkly blue eyes, and beautiful spirit will be sorely missed.
During her time in hospice care at home, Connie and Don depended on the love and support of their beloved daughters, whose presence each day was a special blessing. They appreciated the prayers and loving concern expressed by many close friends, their beautiful Bethlehem church family, and the special in-home care provided by the physical therapists at Physical Therapy Plus.
They also appreciated the care and attention provided by Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service, a local nonprofit (http://www.lavns.com/).
If you would like to make a donation in memory of Connie, please consider the Don & Connie Cobb Education Scholarship, Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation (www.lanlfoundation.org).
A celebration of Connie's life will be held in Los Alamos at 11 a.m. on July 21 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road, with a reception at the church to follow
