Daniel Cox, age 21, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 23, in Socorro. He was born on July 16, 1991 in Boston, Mass. Daniel graduated from Los Alamos High School in 2010, having excelled in Supercomputer competitions, Math Counts, UNM-PNM State Math Contest, LANL Go Figure, and Hilltalkers Debate Team. He was currently a junior at New Mexico Tech in Socorro. Daniel had recently transitioned from a major in Computer Science to Biology. He enthusiastically shared his excitement with others about pursuing a biomedicine path to a possible career as a doctor. He saw this as a way to make a special contribution to other peoples' lives.
Daniel loved hiking, skiing and the New Mexico outdoors. From early childhood, trains and planes excited him. He loved to travel to Central America and other foreign lands to learn about the world. Daniel had a keen curiosity and a tremendous love for life and the rich diversity of the natural world.
Daniel is survived by his mother Laura Cox; his father Larry Paul Cox and brother David Hayes Cox; his aunts: Candace Cox, Patricia Neff, Rebecca Flanagan, Amy Parker, and Georgia Fergen; his grandfather Eugene Parker, as well as uncles and cousins.

A memorial will also be held at 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 2 at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, upper lobby of the Jean Macey Center.
