Timothy Marcus Ellis of Los Alamos, New Mexico, passed away suddenly at Los Alamos Medical Center on June 21, 2012. Tim was born on March 29, 1965 in Lexington, Mississippi, the son of Joe and Ethel Ellis. Tim is survived by his brothers, Robert, Arthur and Mossolina Ellis; his sisters, Louella Holman, Dorris Robinson, Yvonne Young; his two children, Sidney Ellis and Brittany Robinson, and Fianc?e Pamela Humphrey. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe Ellis, Louise Brown and Albert T. Ellis.
Tim worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and began his career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in May of 1986, for Health Safety and Environment (HSE-12) Organization. He was recruited by LANL through the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) program, where throughout his career he maintained an active participation. Tim later worked as a LANL Graduate Research Assistant (April 1988) where he assisted on an EPA restoration Project. In 1990, he received a Master of Science degree from Jackson State University; (MS in Environmental Science, conc. Toxicology). His thesis was on the Development and Assessment of a new HPLC approach for the quantification of bronchalveolar lavage constituents during pulmonary edema.
From 1991 to 2001 Tim lived in Texas and worked as a Senior Analytical Chemist, Chemical Hygiene Officer, and Safety Chairman for Johnson & Johnson, Arlington TX; a Crime Lab Manager for the City of Fort Worth; and as a Senior Analytical Chemist for Medeva Pharmaceuticals (formerly Adams Laboratory), Fort Worth, TX. In 2001 Tim was recruited to lead the Certification Team of the Materials Testing Lab (MTL). In a short time his responsibilities evolved into R&D Manager II-First-Line Manager for the MTL, leading and supervising a team that was responsible for the compatibility and certification of process materials used in Pit Manufacturing. The MTL was a team that was developed before quality was formalized and Tim maintained this framework and service to a large audience. Tim continually strived for process improvements and method development within the MTL Program. He received several personal and team awards for meeting milestones and for PIT manufacturing. In September 2005, Tim received a Lean Manufacturing Certification and in June 2006 earned a Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
Tim served on several Strategic Planning committees for Chemistry Division, the Chemistry Deputy Division search committee and he participated as a member of the International Year of Chemistry Division committee. Charismatic and outgoing, Tim had a broad range of interests and a passion for bowling. On the lane, Tim was known as Tim-burr. He was a Santa Fe city champion and earlier this year won the New Mexico State Championship. Tim was an active member of Omega Psi Phi (?yf), an international fraternity of brotherhood but more than anything, our beloved Tim was a GOD fearing man who will be cherished by family, friends and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Mass and reception was held for Timothy Marcus Ellis on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3580 Canyon Road, Los Alamos, New Mexico 87544.
