John Bryson Henry, age 59, of Choctaw, Okla. passed away March 31, 2013 in his home in Choctaw. John was born June 12, 1953 in Anadarko, Okla. to Charlene Henry Saunders. He was raised in various cities in the states of Oklahoma and New Mexico.
John graduated from Las Cruces High School in Las Cruces in 1971. He proceeded to earn his Bachelor of Science in Education from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales in 1978 as well as his Master of Education from Eastern New Mexico University in 1980. John's expansive repertoire of work in the field of education ranged from Graphic Arts instructor to Video Producer to Library Media Specialist to High School Assistant Principal to Building Trades instructor. John retired from teaching in New Mexico in 2010 before moving to Oklahoma where he returned to teaching and taught Technology Engineering at Harrah Junior High School in Harrah, Okla. for two years.
John received numerous awards and honors throughout his time as an educator and administrator. John loved to sing and was a talented musician. He played guitar for many years and sang in a professional barbershop quartet. In recent years, he enjoyed singing in the choir at church and often performed solos for the tenor section. John was ordained a deacon of the Baptist Church in 1976.
He is preceded in death by his mother Charlene Henry Saunders. He leaves behind his loving wife Kathleen; daughter Jena Dye and her husband Ben; and daughter Janelle Hardie and her husband Josh. His grandchildren include Kadence, Liam, and Tobin Dye. Step-children include Seth and Emily Powers. John also leaves behind step-father William Saunders; step-sister Cindy Scaffetta and her husband Nick; step-brother Buddy Saunders and his daughters Lacy Saunders and Sara Martin; and step-brother Robert Saunders and his wife Sandy as well as their sons, Griffin and Garrett.
There will be a private viewing for family members only. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 5, 2013 at Meadowood Baptist Church located at 2816 North Woodcrest Drive in Midwest City, OK. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the John Henry Memorial Fund at Bancfirst on 23 and Dobb Streets in Harrah, OK.
