Kerns, John  
John P. "Whitey" Kerns LANCASTER: John P. "Whitey" Kerns 100 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Lan-Fair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was co-owner of Doid Kerns and Son Roofing and Heating for 70 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. John is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Jim) Karr of Lancaster, Ohio; sons, Robert Z. Kerns of Lancaster, Ohio and Doid William Kerns of Hector, New York; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and Two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian Davidson of Kettering, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilyan M. Kerns, parents, Doid and Nettie Kerns, brothers, Bud, Robert, Forest, Ed, and Howard Kerns, sisters, Mary Burnham and Gail Crook, and daughter-in-law, Wanda Kerns. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Emil H. Klatt, III officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio. Friends may visit Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. Scamehorn, Richard C. (Dick)  
Richard (Dick) C. Scamehorn LANCASTER: Richard (Dick) C. Scamehorn died at his home in Lancaster on Sunday, December 21,2014. He was born October 9, 1935 in Niles, Michigan to John R. Scamehorn and Lois I. (Lamberton) Scamehorn. Dick graduated from Niles High School then attended the University of Michigan, where he proudly played in the Varsity and Marching Bands. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering. Just hours after graduation, he drove to Muskegon, Michigan to marry Julia Ann Hasper. He subsequently attended Indiana University, earning a Master of Business Administration, and Ohio University, earning a Master of Social Science. As a member of the United States Marine Corps, he was an artillery officer in the elite Force Troops, Fleet Marine Force Pacific. After serving in the military, Dick spent nearly three decades in the multi-national manufacturing field, working for Union Carbide Corporation, Joy Manufacturing Company and Diamond Power Specialty International, where he served as vice-president manufacturing, vice president marketing and president. He conducted business and traveled in 52 countries and served on boards of directors of companies in Australia, Canada, Finland South Korea, South Africa and the United Kingdom. A long-time resident of Lancaster, he was active in a number of community and civic organizations, including New Horizons Youth and Family Center, Vista Health, Inc., Junior Achievement of Fairfield County and First Presbyterian Church. Dick served as vice president and director of the Lancaster-Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, president of the Lancaster chapter of Symposiarchs of America, trustee of Fairfield Medical Center, and chartering member of the Rotary Club of Lancaster- Sherman, earning him the designation of Paul Harris Fellow. He served as Ohio University's Executive-in-Residence Emeritus, where he taught business strategy and multi-national business for 18 years before retiring in 2009.He also served as secretary of the Ohio Council of Economic Education and the Ohio University-Lancaster Coordinating Council and chairman of the South East Ohio Council of Economic Education. Following his retirement, he enjoyed writing a Sunday column for the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, the last of which was published on the day he passed away. Dick will be remembered by friends and family for his love for the University of Michigan. For nearly five decades after he marched on the field of home Wolverine football games, he attended every Michigan vs. O.S.U. football game in the Big House. The rivalry he encountered as a 45 year resident of central Ohio was a great source of enjoyment for Dick. His six granddaughters will cherish the memories of Papa playing the banjo and singing folk songs. An avid coin collector, he delighted in presenting them with shiny, collector coins at holidays and birthdays. He was proud and privileged to welcome the first great-grandchild into his family just two years ago. Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Julia Ann (Hasper) Scamehorn; three daughters, Jane Jameson of Columbus, OH , Carol ( Jeffrey) Sauer of Lancaster and Susan ( Matt) Evans of Marietta, OH; six grandchildren, Emily (Daniel) Spradlin of Lancaster, Sarah Stoughton of Lancaster, Jessica Jameson of Columbus, OH, Sophie, Kate and Lindsay Evans of Marietta, OH; one great-grandchild, Kassidy Spradlin of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John R. Scamehorn, Jr. Memorial services will be held Friday, January 16th, 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, Ohio with Rev. Matthew Richardson officiating. The family suggests contributions to First Presbyterian Church, 222 N. Broad St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or the Lancaster Rotary Scholarship Fund, 235 S. Columbus St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 in Richard's memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, dignity cremation has taken place.

Schweitzer, John E. And Irene A.  
John E. and Irene A. Schweitzer GREENVILLE, SC: In loving memory of John E. and Irene A. Schweitzer there will be visitation hours between 1:00-3:00 P.M. and a brief memorial service at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 27th at the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home on 207 S. Main St. (Rt. 158) in Baltimore, Ohio. John and Irene lived in Baltimore many years before John, a mechanical engineer, was transferred to S.C. in 1979 where they resided in Greenville, S.C. Irene was a cook for Liberty-Union Schools for many years. Both Irene and John were 93 years old at the time of their death and had been married for 74 years. They are survived by their sons: Ronald (Charlotte) Schweitzer, Robert (Lois) Schweitzer, Thomas (fiancée Melissa Duffy) Schweitzer, and daughter, Jane (John) Garber. Her brother, Noel Lehman of Baltimore survives Irene. Her parents, Alfred and Cora Lehman, a brother, Lester Lehman, and a sister, Ann Chalfant, preceded her in death. John's parents, Frank and Miriam Schweitzer, and five sisters predeceased Johnny. Also, they leave behind ten grandchildren: Jentry Theiss, Brynn Giacomazzo, John Schweitzer, Joe Schweitzer, Jeff Schweitzer, Sandy Nielson, Dr. Susie Fain, Stefanie Whiteside, Heidi Ozment, and Todd Boyer. Both John and Irene have been cremated and will be buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore, Ohio at a later date.

William L. Grey LANCASTER: William L. Grey, 76, of Lancaster passed away on Tuesday December 23, 2014 at his residence. He was born on March 4, 1938 in Mansfield, OH to the late Joseph and Margaret Grey. Bill served in the U.S. National Guard. He retired from Anomatic in Newark. Bill enjoyed fishing and camping. Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet A. (Klingler) Grey; sons, William G. "Gil" (Jodi) Grey, Mitch L. (Priscilla Stiles) Klingler; grandson, Matt (Toni) Klingler; grandson, Joe Schmelzer; granddaughter, Natalie Klingler; and many additional grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Carl Gray. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; and sisters. Graveside Services will be at 12:00PM Friday December 26, 2014 at the Floral Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Kempton, Dorothy Mae (Schlairet)  
Dorothy Mae (Schlairet) Kempton MOUNT VERNON: Dorothy Mae (Schlairet) Kempton, age 97, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon. She was born on April 15, 1917 in Mount Vernon, Ohio the daughter of E.A. and Margaret (Denni) Schlairet. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she was a founding member of the Resurrection Choir. She spent numerous hours volunteering with the Sharing Tree at Christmas time, managing Clothes-N-Counters and served on the Interchurch Board for over 18 years. In 2000, Dorothy was honored as the Catholic Woman of the Year voted on by the Columbus Catholic Diocese. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling the world and fun times with her Bridge Club friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be missed by many. Dorothy is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by eight children; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; including her daughter, Martha Jean Gavin and her children, C.J. (Lori) Gavin, Kevin (Cathy) Gavin, Jennifer (Erik) Spiegel, Bridget (Brian) Kuhn, Corey (Shelley) Gavin and Tara (Scott) Craaybeek. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Elmer Kempton (1999). Lawrence was born February 21, 1946 in Rockbridge, Ohio to Ralph and Vergie A. Flowers. He worked, 39 years, for Miller Pipeline; lifetime member of the Ohio Operating Engineers; member of the Pickerington Moose Lodge; loved NASCAR; enjoyed hunting; and his favorite cars were the 56 Chevy Nomad, and the 66 Pontiac GTO convertible. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Donna Sue Flowers; sons, Lawrence E (Nicole) Flowers of Clarkville, TN, Kirby Flowers of New Straitsville, and Dereck Flowers of New Straitsville; grandchildren, Brook, Ryan, Kyra, Abby, Chastity, Elaina, Ethan, Seth, and Sierra; brother, Gerald (Georgia) Flowers of Rockbridge; sister, Berdena (John) Phillips of Parkersburg, WV. David Michael "Mick" Schwamberger BALTIMORE: David Michael "Mick" Schwamberger 74 of Baltimore, Ohio passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 at his residence. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Air Force and was a retired analyst for Lucent Technologies with over 30 years of service. He loved woodworking and loved spending time with his grandchildren. David is survived by his son, Michael (Roberta) Schwamberger of Logan, Ohio; daughter, Michelle (Walt Dillard) Hamill of Lancaster, Ohio; grandchildren, Trisha (Chase) Miller, Ashley (Cole) Platt, Dennis "Mikey" Hamill, Baylie Schwamberger, and Tyler Schwamberger; great-grandson, Cohen Platt; brothers, James Schwamberger of Portsmouth, Ohio, Bernard (Diane) Schwamberger of Fairborn, Ohio, William (Debbie) Schwamberger of Portsmouth, Ohio, Robert (Shirley) Schwamberger of Missouri, and Edward (Barb) Schwamberger of Portsmouth, Ohio; sister, Annett (Roger) Evans of Coalgrove, Ohio; son-in-law, Dennis Hamill; many nieces and nephews. Marcella Anne Altman LANCASTER: Marcella Anne Altman, 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 in Pickering House. She was born on May 21, 1929 in Lancaster a daughter of the late Harold and Isabelle (McMahon) Wagstaff. Marcella is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Emery V. (Rose) Altman Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Diane Altman and Ralph Hayashida, daughter, Donna Murphy and daughter and son-in-law, Carol Disbennet and Ralph Alfred; ten grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emery V. Altman Sr. in 2001; and two brothers, Donald and Robert Wagstaff. A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. The family is being served by the Halteman-Fett and Dyer Funeral Home.
