John Joseph Azbell, 77, of Lancaster went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 28, 2013 surrounded by his family and friends at Pickering House. John was born September 16, 1936 to the late Clarence "Babe" and Mary (Kilbarger) Azbell. He retired as foreman after 50 years of service with the Iron Workers Union # 172 in Columbus. He was a longtime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 955 and a lifetime member to the Hocking County Fish and Game. He attended St. Mark Church and Pleasant Chapel Church of God. John dearly loved his family and the outdoors. He spent many years hunting, fishing, camping and mushroom hunting. He was a great man of honor. He fought a hard battle with his health over the past 21 years and never complained once. John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth L. "Hanna" Azbell; children, Everett "Bryan" (Beth) Azbell of Port Clinton, Nancy (Randy) Parish and Kathy (Toby) Bullock of Lancaster; 8 grandchildren, "John Michael", Haley, Hunter, Faith, Joshua, Heather, Amanda, "John Robert"; 14 great grandchildren; brothers, his twin Jerry (Danielle) Azbell, Charles (Mary Jane) Azbell and Thomas (Anna) Azbell; brother in law, Fred "Sonny" Hanna; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, and friends. John was preceded in death by his siblings: Clarence "Butch" (Flossie) Azbell, Earl Azbell, Edward (Minnie) Azbell, Rita (Don) Spangler, Vera (Kenny) McCreary, Rose Ann (Gene) Clifton, Marge (Warren) Marshell, Pauline (John) Williams, Dorothy Coakley and sister in law, Irene (Charles) McCune.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Sheridan Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Rauch and Rev. Toby Bullock officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM and on Thursday from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM prior to service at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME.
