Mary Josephine "Phenie" Cotterman
SOMERSET: Mary Josephine "Phenie" Cotterman, 91, of Somerset, died at 4:25 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Chapel Grove Inn in Heath, and joined the love of her life in Heaven.
Josephine was born July 26, 1921 in Fairfield County, the daughter of the late Robert and Esta Faye Miller Tribble.
She was a graduate of Rushville Union High School; was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, and grew up in the Oakthorpe Christian Union Church, of which she attended both churches. She taught Sunday School for many years, and was a Past Worthy Matron of the Rushville Eastern Star. Josephine was a cook at Sheridan Junior and Senior High Schools. She was a great cook and beautiful quilter and seamstress, and could stitch up a whole outfit in an afternoon. She loved her flowers and humming birds, and decorated many wedding cakes.
Josephine is survived by her children, Donald James (Patricia) Cotterman of Nashport, Richard Douglas (Linda) Cotterman of Somerset, Kenneth Eugene (Donna) Cotterman of Thornville, and Paulette Faye (Randy) Starner of Somerset; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Judy) Tribble; three sisters, Betty Harlan, Marjorie Hite and Jane (Ed) Palmer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Cotterman; and a sister, Violet Young.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset and one hour prior to the service. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the funeral home with Dr. Herbert Hicks officiating, assisted by Pastor Brad Jones. Burial will follow in Zion Ridge Cemetery.
