LANCASTER: Frank (Whitie) Bateman, 79, of Lancaster, passed away early Thursday morning surrounded by those he loved and most loved him at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
Whitie was born in Royal Oak, MI the 2nd and youngest son to Frank and Irene Bateman. His parents and older brother Joe precede him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife Nancy of 49 years, daughter Vicki (Greg) Schultz of Columbus and his granddaughter Katelyn Schultz who was the light of his eye.
A graduate of Springfield (OH) High School he attended Ohio University and was a graduate of Indiana Northern. He served in the United States Army and it was while serving in Alaska that he picked up the nickname "Whitie"; referring to his fair complexion and light hair.
He began his career in marketing and business development in the mobile home industry working in various capacities including starting a couple of mobile home manufacturing facilities. He eventually rose to the position of Vice President of the American National Bank, in Indiana.
Whitie returned to Ohio following retirement at the age of 42 where he began his second career in the gas and oil production business owning and managing numerous production wells. In the past few years he enjoyed dabbling in real estate and most of all spending time at his farm in Hocking County.
Services will be Monday 12 pm at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home in Lancaster, with Pastor Richard Collins officiating. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
