CANAL WINCHESTER: Gene D. Scott, 71, of Canal Winchester, died November 21, 2013, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital surrounded by his family.

Gene was born in 1942. He grew up in Athens County, Ohio, and graduated from Albany High School in 1960. After attending Ohio University, he married and began his career in the printing industry. He started working for Lawhead Press, Inc. in 1963 as a sales rep and later was appointed VP of sales and to the board of directors. In 1971 he was co-founder, and is the current President and Chairman of the board of directors of DOWSCO, Inc., which does business as PXPOHIO, formerly known as Pony X Press Printing Services. Gene proudly served the Printing Industry of America (PIA) since 1974 on countless committees. He was inducted into the PIA Ash Khan Society - now known as the Ben Franklin Society - at their Clave in 2002 in New Orleans, LA. He served on the Curriculum Advisory Board for the Graphic Communications Department at Columbus State Community College, and was a member of the Columbus Club of Printing House Craftsmen. He was an advocate for the environmental improvement of the Printing Industry and kept PXPOHIO on the cutting edge of technology. Gene served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 7 years and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South and the Masonic Lodge. He loved golf and played as often as he could, and also enjoyed fly fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Dwight Scott and Helen (Rose) Scott. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Linda (Sherrick) Scott, his children, Greg Scott (Christine) and Leslie Denlinger (Adam), and four grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Avery and Megan Scott, and Lauren and Drew Denlinger. He is also survived by three loving sisters, Julia Hyrne (Hal), Jane Krueger (Doug), and Jo Roney (Mike), nieces and nephews, and a wealth of friends.

Friends and family may visit the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 West Waterloo St. Canal Winchester, OH 43110 on Sunday, November 24, from 2:00-6:00pm. A funeral service officiated by Reverend Casey Wilson will be held on Monday, November 25, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 4760 Winchester Pike, Columbus, OH 43232 at 11:00am with an hour prior of visitation. Burial will follow at Forest Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, South, or the Kidney Foundation.
