Helen Marie Morrison Plaisted

TACOMA: WA: Mother, wife, doctor, musician, teacher, gourmet chef, electrician, chauffeur, gardener, mechanic, plumber, accountant, confidant, warden, janitor, groundskeeper, bookkeeper, cook, wall paper hanger, nurse, painter, housekeeper, CEO, CFO, seamstress. Yes, at various times Helen fulfilled all of these roles, and so many more in what seems an altogether too short time on this earth. Sadly, Helen was born January 7, 1932 in a time when the myriad capabilities and competencies that women easily perform were not as appreciated as they are now. But when she graduated from Liberty Union High School in 1949, she started her journey to help change that.

Helen married in 1953, and together she started a family with her husband Ralph E. Plaisted. Helen and Ralph raised six children, three girls and three boys. For her family she had the strength of a legion. She never showed any fear or weakness, even under the most dire circumstances. Always giving willingly of herself, and supporting her family in their times of need without hesitation, this was Helen.

The last year had been a difficult one for Helen, she endured blow after blow to her health and confidence, yet she battled back each time. After living for 37 years in Lakeland Florida, Helen decided to travel to the beautiful Pacific Northwest to be with family. Here she found comfort and unconditional love.

In her last hours Helen was surrounded at her bedside by her loving family. Her daughter and sons holding her hands, praying for her, comforting her and urging her not to leave them. But as with all, Helen knew it was time for her to return home. Hand in hand the family made that last journey together, until her sons and daughter could travel with her no more. Helen peacefully, with dignity and courage, passed from earthly life to eternal life in the kingdom of God, at 11:00 am on Monday July 15, 2013 from complications after suffering a stroke. An angel on earth, she is now an angel in heaven.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Steven Morrison and Francis Katherine Swarner Morrison, and her loyal and devoted furry companions, Holly and Angel, as well as her adoring daughter-in-law, Akiko.

Helen is survived by her husband, Ralph E. Plaisted; and her beloved children, Karen, Barbara, Ralph III, Jane, Steven and Cherie, and Gary. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jason, Erin, Sean, Jennifer, Rebecca, and Nathan; one great grandchild, Amber; and finally, by her furry best pal, Pucci.

In lieu of expressions of condolences Helen would like friends to consider supporting the effort to find a cure for diabetes so that no child has to suffer its effects as has her most beloved daughter.
