LANCASTER: Howard R. Schisler, Jr., Lt Col (ret) Ord Corps US Army. Born Pleasantville, OH August 1, 1926 passed away August 31, 2013 under hospice care.
Survived by his loving wife of 25 years Mary Hargus Schisler; sons Lawrence P. Schisler, Gary H. Schisler (Laura Jo) and Howard R. Schisler III (Lisa); sister Norma W. Bagby; six grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents Howard R. Schisler, Sr. and Fanchion Watson Schisler; and brother James F. Schisler.
Graduated Lancaster High School 1944 and worked for Leon Wolford, Fairfield County Engineer for the summer of 1944. On October 14, 1944 entered the U.S. Army as a private and rose through the ranks to Sergeant First Class. On March 18, 1952 was sworn in as a 2nd Lt., Ord Corps, US Army, stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Served in Germany in 1945 and 1961-63. In January 1946 returned to The Ordnance School, Aberdeen; followed by assignments to the Panama Canal Zone; the Erie Ordnance Depot at Port Clinton, OH, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Rock Island Arsenal, II., Tan Son Nuit, Vietnam and Yokohama, Japan. Promoted to Lt Colonel while in Vietnam. In November, 1969, returned to the Defense Electronic Supply Center, Kettering, Ohio from Japan. Howard was honorably retired from military service on April 30, 1970, having served 26 years with the U.S. Army. Following retirement, Howard again accepted employment with the Fairfield County Engineer and retired after 26 years County service.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:00AM Friday September 6, 2013 at the Forest Rose Cemetery with military honors. Cremation has taken place.
