NEWPORT NEWS, VA: Leland J. Lutz, 96, concluded an extraordinary earthly life on June 25, 2013. He was born in Pickaway County, Ohio on October 1, 1916, and grew up as a farm boy in Amanda, Ohio.
Following graduation from Amanda High School he went to work with the Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation in Lancaster, Ohio. In 1942, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served as a Chief Petty Officer (Machine Accountant) in WWII and the Korean Conflict. After naval service, he returned to Anchor Hocking where he guided the transition from accounting machines to digital computers. Leland was active in the Lancaster community serving as an elder in the Church of Christ and as a member of Rotary.
Upon retirement from Anchor Hocking as the manager of production and inventory control, Leland and his wife, Ella Lee (Ray), moved to Orlando, Florida where they enjoyed family, church and the Windermere Rotary until Ella Lee's death in 1985. Later, he married an Amanda schoolmate, Inez Seesholtz, and moved to Ocala, Florida where they lived until Inez's passing in 2005.
Leland loved the Lord, his family and his church family. He was a gentle and generous man.
He is survived by his son, Frederick Ray, daughter-in-law, Diane (Edwards) and grandson Andrew, all of Hampton, VA; grandson Leland John Paul Lutz (Debbie); great-grandchildren, John Paul, Vivian Marie and Georgia Diane of Atlanta; brother, Benis (Carolyn) Lutz of Asheville, OH; and brother-in-law, Dr. Leonard Mann of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Ethel Lutz; brothers John Allen Lutz and Ellis Lutz; and sister, Esther Mann.
A memorial service will be held on July 13, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Halteman-Fett & Dyer funeral home in Lancaster, Ohio. Friends may greet family at 10:00 a.m.
