Elmer Ross Linehan

LANCASTER: Elmer Ross Linehan, 93, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Pickering House. He was born on May 4, 1920 to the late Matthew and Freda Becker Linehan. The family moved to Lancaster in 1930 and Elmer graduated from Lancaster High School in 1938. He started his own Electric business, Linehan Electric in 1948 after being discharged from the Army after serving 2 years in WWII. Elmer also worked at Lancaster Glass for 35 years. Elmer loved to eat, he had his meals planned out and scheduled. He enjoyed horseracing, golf and fishing. He loved watching The Ohio State Buckeyes.

On October 25, 1941, Elmer married Ruth I. Poling and they had 5 children, Elmer E. (Shirley) Linehan, James (Dot) Linehan, Bonnie (Joe) Vandall, Diane (Nick) Wohrer, and Matt Linehan; 8 grandkids, James M. Linehan, Todd Linehan, Retired USAF Major Thomas Moore, Jamey Ross Moore, Jason A. Linehan, Holly Graf, Michelle Wolfe, and Mindi Norris. They also had 18 great grandkids and 3 great great grandkids. Also surviving is his sister Dorothy Henderly.

In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Linehan; 3 brothers, Tim, Matt and Lawrence Linehan.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, October 17 at 1:00 PM at the SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Terry Borah officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with a Military graveside conducted by the Lancaster Ohio Veterans Burial Detail.

Family will accept friends on Wednesday, October 16 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and also 1 hour prior to service on Thursday at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Sheena and the girls at the Pickering House especially Nicole and also to the nurses on the 5th fl at the Fairfield Medical Center for all their loving care they provided Elmer.

Memorial Contributions may be made to FairHoPe Hospice in memory of Elmer.
