ANDERSON, SC: John E. Schweitzer, 93, passed away July 22, 2014 at the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Irene Schweitzer of The Palmettos in Mauldin, SC.
He was born the only son of Frank and Miriam Schweitzer on October 12, 1920 in Hammett, Idaho. He retired from Jeffrey Mfg. in Columbus, Ohio and Belton, SC after many years of service as a mechanical engineer. Over the years he traveled for his work to Germany, England, Canada and Russia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WW II, a member of the Masons, the Carolina Golf and Tennis, the VFW Post 3761, and Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and golf.
He is survived by his sons: Ronald (Charlotte) Schweitzer of Greenville, SC, Robert (Lois) Schweitzer of Baltimore, Ohio, Tom Schweitzer and fiancee Melissa Duffy of Easley, SC; and daughter, Jane (John) Garber of Lancaster, Ohio. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: John Schweitzer (Michelle Thomasula) of Atlanta, GA, Joe (Suzette) Schweitzer of Piedmont, SC, Jeff Schweitzer (Mindy Winegardner) of Pleasantville, Ohio, Sandy (Jeff) Neilsen of Baltimore, Ohio, Dr. Susie (Mike) Fain of Baltimore, Ohio, Stefanie (Brian) Whiteside of Greer, SC, Gentry (Adam) Theiss of Louisville, KY, Brynn Garber and fiancee Chris Giacomazzo of Minneapolis, MN, Heidi (Mark) Ozment of Blacklick, Ohio, Todd Boyer of Lancaster, Ohio; and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his good friend and brother-in-law, Noel Lehman of Baltimore, Ohio.
He was predeceased by his parents and five sisters and was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
The family wishes to thank The Palmettos, NHC of Mauldin, Caris Hospice and the Richard Campbell Nursing Home for their kind and loving care.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
